The Biocide Product Directive (BPD) is a European-wide scheme that covers a wide range of marketable products from disinfectants to preservatives. The UK implements this directive under the Biocidal Product Regulation 2001 and is enforced under the Health & Safety At Work Act. The new regulation on the use and placing on the market of biocidal products will repeal and replace the current directive on biocides (98/8/EC). It will enter into force on 1 January 2013.
