Chemical Proficiency Course: COSHH training in the safe use, handling and storage of chemicals

Chemical Proficiency Course: COSHH training in the safe use, handling and storage of chemicals

In all commercial and industrial cleaning operations, cleaning chemicals are used extensively and regularly in large amounts. Even with the advent of ‘green’ cleaning, that is cleaning conducted with chemicals of such a relatively low human and environmental toxicity, there is still an inherent risk in the use, handling and storage of those products.

Written especially for cleaning companies, but provides much needed knowledge for anyone who handles chemicals as part of their day-to-day work. The law (the Control of Substances Hazardous to Health (COSHH) Regulations and the wider Health and Safety at Work Act) requires anyone who has to handle chemicals as part of their job – in any industry – to write a full risk assessment. In order to comply, you need to understand your legal requirements.

Major changes to CHIP regulations – are you ready? Here for the first time is a fully detailed and up to the minute course on what you need to know.

This course aims to provide that vital training in the safe use, handling and storage of cleaning chemicals. To do this, you will need to know how to read and interpret all sources of information given to you and be able to create a detailed COSHH risk assessment. This course will take you through the old CHIP regulations and introduce to you the new CLP and REACH regulations (the latter two combined replaces the CHIP in 2015) and how these new regulations affect the decisions you will need to make when assessing risk.

This course will also introduce and explain key terms like: pH, physical and chemical terms, hazard and precautionary statements and risk and safety phrases, dilution, and much more. Understanding these terms and how they in turn affect the health and safety of people, are essential when creating your risk assessment.
